DD3235 vs SH3235 – Why Photos Alone Can Be Misleading

When comparing DD3235 and SH3235 movements, judging only by photos can often be misleading.

The main reason is that Dandong, also known as DD, movements are usually supplied to factories in a raw or unfinished state. High-end manufacturers such as VS Factory, ARF, and similar premium factories then apply their own engravings, surface finishing, polishing, and decorative work before the movement reaches its final form.

Because of this, many comparisons seen online are not truly comparing a finished DD movement with a finished SH movement. In many cases, they are comparing a fully finished SH movement against a raw or undecorated DD movement, which does not represent the final production quality accurately.

From a technical perspective, the DD platform has been considered one of the industry’s reference points for many years. Its bridge geometry, gear tolerances, jewel placement, and automatic winding system are generally regarded as some of the closest to the genuine 3235 architecture.

Thanks to the use of high-quality steel alloys, precisely machined brass gears, synthetic ruby jewels, and advanced tolerance control, the DD3235 is not only strong visually, but also highly capable in long-term performance.

SH has improved significantly in recent years, and it has become a much more competitive platform than before. However, when it comes to amplitude stability, automatic winding efficiency, gear machining quality, and long-term durability, DD still remains the preferred choice for many top-tier factories.

This is why VS Factory, ARF, and many other high-end manufacturers continue to rely on the DD platform for their premium 3235-based models.

In short, external appearance can always be copied over time. But material quality, production tolerances, movement architecture, and long-term operating character are much harder to replicate.

That is why the DD3235 continues to be one of the technical benchmarks in the high-end super clone movement market.
